After a lady who has now been named was fatally stabbed on Monday afternoon in the parking lot of a Food Lion in Lumberton, police said a man had been taken into custody.

The victim has been named as Lamberton resident Kayla Nicole Hammonds, 31. The 37-year-old Desmond Lee Sampson has been detained and is accused of first-degree murder, according to the Lamberton Police Department.

Around 4.25 pm, there was a stabbing. a Food Lion parking lot on Elizabethtown Road, close to Lumberton, according to authorities.
